Pants

"I know who wears the pants in your family," says a friend of ours...actually one of Sir's best friends.

He's looking at me.  He's looking at me because he knows that I wear the pants in our family.  That's what he knows.

"Who wears the pants in our family?"  I say looking pointedly at Sir and smiling, sweetly (not smugly or accusingly or cheeky).

"I do."  Sir says Confidently, without missing a beat and with no further explanation.

Our friend looks a bit surprised and looks to me again, I'm sure he was looking for me to have a sharp comeback.

"Yes, you do." I say, then looking at our friend add, "He wears the pants in our family."

"Times change." Sir says to him with a smile.

"I must have been a raging bitch," I say to Sir later at home.

"No, but outspoken and domineering sometimes.  Not anymore, well ... not domineering anymore.  I AM proud of you, fiona."

  3. wow -you won the spam lotto!

Good for you and your man! -- I sort of hate the "who wears the pants" crack - because it's always an insult to you both

so good for you both for shutting him down with the truth.

  4. Love the way you responded Fiona, it sounds like your Sir did you. It's such a rewarding feeling when something triggers us to look back and take note of the progress we have made.

  9. I agree, I don't like the "wears the pants" comment in general, it brings up both under judgment, demeans.
But it sounds as though the change is something you both relish.

  11. Proud. the magic word. I melt whenever it's applied directly to me :)

and yeah, i don't like the pants comment much either. especially not in front of the man of the house. i think girl friend to girl friend in private is one thing, but not in front of our man's face.

    1. Oh isn't that the best - when they are PROUD of us!! YEA!!!

You know, I actually like that our friend got to hear the response. It was a great opportunity to set the record straight :)

  12. I love to keep people guessing. My husband will pretend I'm the boss in public, when we both clearly know who wears the pants... :)

    1. Ya, there are many who think I am the one who makes all decisions, but it has actually NEVER been that way. We make big decisions together. We are a team. I submit, willingly to him, but I am a voting member of parliament.

  13. People say the strangest things. At work (when we both worked in the same place) people would say similar things to me - even make comments about me tying Husband to the bed and/or whipping him.

We would always look at each other knowingly and smile our secret smile.
